Carbon Visits the Royal Welsh Show

We recently traveled down to the Royal Welsh Show to install our interactive touchscreen application for the BBC. The application allows you to browse video content across Wales and create you very own news story by editing clips and music together with live playback. A collaboration between Carbon, Made and BBC Wales New media.

Know Your Rights!

Know Your Rights is a bilingual interactive game about the Rights of the Child. The challenge is to explore the community map collecting all your rights along the way. Imaginet commissioned us to create, illustrate and build a game that was visually engaging and fun for children and young people to interact with.

Merlin Website Wins a Bafta!

We were over the moon when it was announced that the Merlin website won the Bafta for best interactive at Sunday nights Bafta Cymru. The Merlin site was a collaboration between Carbon Studio and BBC Wales new media. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Lucky Voice Pop-up Shop!

For two weeks Lucky Voice is taking over a shop by Carnaby Street and turning it into an emporium of song. There’ll be Party Boxes to buy and free singing to be done in their karaoke shop front every day 12pm – 7pm, 25th March till 5th April 09.
We made them a fun little interactive pop-up card to market the event, which has been a huge hit already!

Celtic Media Festival Nomination

The BBC Merlin Website has made the nomination list for best interactive at the Celtic Media Festival Awards! Carbon Studio worked with BBC New Media to create the project. Good luck to all involved.

We were very excited to work with Lucky Voice (the most liberating, heart-racing, life-affirming singing experience on earth) recently. They came to Carbon Studio because they wanted a fun engaging marketing tool for their January promotion. The brief required us to create an on-brand experience targeting a largely female audience. Merlin Gets 5 Star Review in Webuser Magazine

Webuser, the UK's best-selling internet magazine has given www.bbc.co.uk/merlin a glowing 5 star review. The Merlin website (a collaboration between BBC Wales New Media and Carbon Studio) was described as "a magical website... framed in a fantastic design, the rest of the site hosts character profiles, trailers, games, photos and videos, some of which can only be accessed by tracing a pattern with your mouse. It’s evident that a great deal of thought and effort has gone into this promotional tool, so let’s hope the series maintains its high standards. Truly wizard stuff."

We were very pleased to win the award for best website at the Cardiff Design Festival Awards last week. Carbonstudio.co.uk won the judges over with it's playful nature and innovative creativity.

We were pleased to attend the opening evening of the 2008 Cardiff Design Festival in the fantastic Senedd (National Assembly for Wales) building in Cardiff Bay yesterday. The festival celebrates design talent in Wales across a number of disciplines ranging from interative to architecture.

We put together an interactive showcase of the shortlisted submissions for Motion Graphics, Web and Interactive, and Carbon Studio is proud to be a named sponsor of the festival.

It was nice to meet both old friends and new and have a good chat about the local scene. The festival culminates in a party and awards at the end of the month which we're looking forward to attending!

Torchwood Alternate Reality Games

"A genetics professor has gone missing! It's probably nothing but he had just claimed that he was being hunted by aliens. It's an ideal opportunity to test out the potential candidates. If you think you got what it takes, give it your best shot!"

We we're very excited to create the design for the Torchwood ARG, a series of games that encouraged users to move from the TV show to their computers to continue the adventure on-line. We were responsible for the design and illustration of the computer interface, the icons and all the games. Another very cool project to work on!

Torchwood

We were very honoured to be asked to redesign the website for world wide hit TV series Torchwood. Preparation for this included a private tour around the set and a chance to meet some of the cast, which was very cool!

The brief required that we create all the content from scratch. The end result? We created an above ground Cardiff cityscape for the homepage, then head down below ground for further content.

Sarah Jane Adventures

Carbon Studio was commissioned by the BBC to design and illustrate the new Sarah Jane Adventures interactive website. It was a really fun site to do! We enjoyed creating all the assets from scratch in photoshop to create a half real, half illustrated feel to the site.
